Damien Hirst (b. 1965) is a British contemporary artist who emerged on the international art scene as a Young British Artist in the late 1980s and has since become one of the most influential artists of his generation. “All You Need is Love, Love, Love” is a screenprint in colors with diamond dust of a big red, butterfly-filled heart. Butterflies are one of Hirst’s most well known motifs, their appeal created by the appearance of the life they retain after death. The optimistic title of the famous Beatles song is blended with the artist’s musings on both mortality and the butterflies’ colorful dazzling patterns that represent life. Hirst’s artwork resides in the Tate Gallery, London; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami.
