Michael Craig-Martin (b. 1941) is a London-based contemporary and conceptual artist who is known for his minimalist works of quotidian objects. His distinctive style of paired-down everyday items probes the relationship between objects and images. “Bulb” is from Craig-Martin’s recent Fundamentals series, which also includes sunglasses, a remote, and a tennis racket. Precise, bold outlines demarcating flat planes of vibrant colors. The series examines the universal language of images to communicate the shared value of the everyday objects, both essential and insignificant. Craig-Martin was born in Dublin and is one of the most influential artists and teachers of his generation, having a lasting influence on Young British Artists like Damien Hirst.
